How You Can Help

If you can't help in any other way, a simple "thank you" email would be appreciated.

I'm offering a monetary reward for most/all tasks. If a section has a $ beside it, then there's a reward for at least one of the tasks in that section. The exact dollar amount is listed next to the task itself or otherwise explained in the text. Be sure to read the terms and conditions.

Cemetery Visits $
Walker County, Alabama: the grave of 114John Wesley Hanes $20 reward

FindAGrave.com memorial ID 109960736 includes a photo of the tombstone of John Wesley Hanes (1829-1891) at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Walker County, Alabama.

This cemetery is fairly large.

I'm offering a $20 reward to anyone who can locate 114Wesley's grave, tell me its coordinates (latitude and longitude), and send me another photograph of his tombstone. Be sure to read the terms and conditions.

Mecklenburg County, North Carolina: the grave of 974Tunis Hood $20 reward

The Rocky Spring Meeting House Burial Ground at coordinates N35.1821 W80.6152 includes a small, simple stone labeled "T H." This is widely believed to be the grave of 974Tunis Hood. This profile on Geni.com includes a low-quality photo of the stone.

I'm offering a $20 reward to anyone who can locate the stone, tell me its coordinates (latitude and longitude), and send me a better photograph of it. Be sure to read the terms and conditions.

DNA Data $
Y-DNA from a patrilineal descendant of William C. Knight (1802-1854) $120 reward

Y-DNA from a verifiable, male-line descendant of William C. Knight likely would allow one to prove that 512John Knight's father is indeed James Knight, as some researchers suspect.

I'm offering a $120 reward to anyone who can provide me with such Y-DNA results along with evidence that the test-taker is in fact a patrilineal descendant of William C. Knight. I may also pay for the cost of the Y-DNA test, if necessary. Be sure to read the terms and conditions.

Bounty for Critical Research Errors $
On every ancestor's profile page, near the top of the page you'll see the names of that ancestor's parents (or a note that the parents are unknown/uncertain). For example, on 80Washington L. Geiger's profile page you'll see that his parents are 160Jeremiah Geiger and 161Elizabeth Evers.

If you can prove that I've made an error in identifying an ancestor's parents, I will pay you $300/n, where n is how many times "great" that ancestor is. For example, since 80Washington L. Geiger is my 4x-great-grandfather, the bounty would be $75 (because $300 ÷ 4 = 75) if you can prove that 80Washington's parents are not 160Jeremiah Geiger or 161Elizabeth Evers.

This bounty is only for ancestors whose parents I've erroneously identified; it does not apply for ancestors whose parents are noted as unknown/uncertain. The bounty also doesn't apply in the case of minor clerical errors (e.g., if I've mistyped an ancestor's name in one portion of the profile, yet the parents' correct identities are made abundantly clear elsewhere on the same page). Be sure to read the other terms and conditions, as well.
