Problem: Resolved
Who are 66Moor's parents?

Consider the following estate return record, dated 1868 in Washington County, Georgia.2

Excerpted estate returns for the estate of 132Ricy and 133Morning Price. Full page.2

As you can see, six people (or their representatives) received equal payments from the estate, which suggests that these may be children of the deceased. Of the six payments, two were on behalf of dead people: A payment was made to Cullen Price's widow, and Robert Price was acting as the administrator for 66Moor Price's estate (Robert was 66Moor's eldest son, as you can see in other records further down this page).

In Johnston County, North Carolina on 24 February 1795, a marriage bond was issued for 132Rice Price, Jr. and 133Mourning Moore.3 Could this be the same couple named in the above estate record? To answer that question, let's see what other records show about some of the people named in the estate record. We begin with the following chart, which is based entirely on the 1850 census for Washington County, Georgia.

Person House # Born Circa Place of Birth Image Link Citation Notes/Commentary
133Morning Price 645 1779 NC link 4 "Widow." A birth circa 1779 means she would've been ~16 if she married in 1795.
Littleberry Price 692 1796 NC link 5 Littleberry seems to be among the earliest-born children, so it's no surprise that he later served as the administrator for the estate of 132Rice and 133Morning.
66Moore Price 626 1800 NC link 1
Mary Price 645 1808 GA link 4 Lived in the same house with 133Morning Price.
Cullen Price n/a
(deceased)
1815 GA link 6

Notice the close proximity of the people named in the chart.

The 1830 census for Washington County includes Bridges Price, who was 20-something at the time and is listed just a few lines below Littleberry Price.7 Bridges seems to have relocated to Alabama, and his 1850 census entry there reveals that he was born circa 1805 in North Carolina.8 The move to Alabama explains why Littleberry collected Bridges' share from 132Rice's and 133Morning's estate on Bridges' behalf, rather than paying him directly.

Although no record explicitly identifies 66Moore's parents, based on the above his parents very much seem to be 132Rice Price and 133Morning Moore, who married in North Carolina, had several children there (including 66Moore), then relocated to Georgia, where they had a few more children. At least six children received equal shares from their estate after their deaths.

Below is a bibliography (of sorts) of other records that I checked while preparing this proof statement.

Washington County Bible Records, Item #294: Early Washington County Grants, Deeds, Plat, Will. This record set is on microfilm 182/69 at the Georgia Archives.
Washington County Bible Records, Items #201 and #202: Early Washington County Deeds. These record sets are on microfilm 182/66 at the Georgia Archives. In particular, some of the pages in item #202 are faded and difficult to read, so if 66Moor is mentioned therein, I may have accidentally overlooked the reference.
the indices to Washington County's estate returns books B (1843-1852), C (1851-1855), E (1856-1858), and G (1866-1878). 66Moor's estate returns are in Book E, as discussed near the bottom of this page. Book G, page 113 is the estate return record for 132Rice's and 133Morning's estate, copied above.

the indices to Washington County's inventories and appraisements books A (1846-1862) and B (1863-1901). Book A's index claims that 133Morning's inventory is on page 308, but it's not actually there.
Washington County's Sales Book C. Page 135 lists the sales of the property of 132Rice. 66Moore was not one of the purchasers, however.
the index to Washington County's Vouchers Book A (1853-1856) and C (1858-1861). Book C, pages 131 and 132 contain vouchers for the estates of 132Ricy and 133Mourning Price, but none of the information helps to prove 66Moor's parentage. Book B (1856-1859) doesn't have an index, and I haven't searched it.
Tad Evans' book Washington County, Georgia, Newspaper Clippings: Volume I. 1852-1866. There are several mentions of 132Ricy, 133Mourning, and 66Moor Price, but nothing implies that 132Rice and 133Morning are 66Moor's parents.
ibid., Volume II. 1867-1880. The only mention of 132Rice or 133Mourning Price is on page 59, which summarizes the Wednesday 10 March 1869 edition of The Central Georgian newspaper in Sandersville. The summary reads, "Washington County: Littleberry Price files for discharge from the estate of Ricy Price and Mourning Price, both deceased."
ibid., Volume III. 1881-1890. There are no mentions of 132Rice/Ricy, 133Morning, or 66Moor Price.
the book Washington County Georgia Estate Records 1822-1885 compiled by J. Kenneth Brantley. A few Prices are mentioned in the book, but none of the information seems further relevant for proving 66Moor's parentage.

66Moor's oldest child Robert seems to have been born around 1828,1,9 so I suspect that 66Moor married around 1827, but I have no other details of the marriage, nor even his wife's name.

In 1836 66Moor was living in Washington County, Georgia, as shown by an 1836 tax digest, the earliest record I've found of 66Moor. He didn't pay tax on any land or slaves, presumably because he owned neither.10

1836: 66Moor paid tax as a resident of militia district 92 (map), Washington County, Georgia. Full page.10

On 20 August 1837 66Moor married Polly Maxwell... or was it Mary Maxwell? Oddly, Washington County wrote duplicate entries for some marriages, but the two entries for 66Moor's marriage show different names for his bride. The two entries are copied below.11,12

The first entry for 66Moor's 1837 marriage to Polly Maxwell. Full page.11

The second entry, this time to Mary Maxwell. Full page.12

As noted previously, 66Moor had several children (including his daughter 33Elizabeth) who were clearly born before 1837, so this marriage to Mary/Polly Maxwell was likely a second marriage. Mary/Polly may not have been the mother of 66Moor's older children; see a more thorough explanation here.

By 1838 66Moor had acquired 200 acres of pine land along/near Nealy Creek.13 Although he owned a considerable amount of land, he didn't own slaves.13 (However, 66Moor apparently did acquire one slave late in life. See the notes below about his estate inventory.)

1838: 66Moor paid tax as a resident of militia district 92 (map), Washington County, Georgia. Full page.13

By 1840, 66Moor had had six children: three boys and three girls.9

1840: 66Moor's household in militia district 92 (map), Washington County, Georgia. Full page.9

66Moore still lived in militia district 92 in 1849, 1850, and 1851. An 1849 record specifies (again) that he lived near/along Nealy Creek.14-16

The 1850 census shows that 66Moor had had several more children in the 1840's. His wife Mary/Polly is not listed, however, so she presumably had died in the late 1840's.1

1850: 66Moor's family in Washington County, Georgia. Full page.1

66Moor was alive in 1851,16 but had died by 2 April 1855.17

He had written his will a few years earlier. A transcription is below, but you also may view the county record copy.18

An appraisal of his estate on 2 April 1855 included: one black man worth $50; desks, chairs, and other furniture; horses, hogs, cattle, geese; a rifle; various farming tools and a set of blacksmith tools; and other items. You can see the inventory here.17

66Moor's eldest son Robert handled the taxes for his father's estate in 1855.19 66Moor's estate returns are of limited genealogical interest, but you can read them online: Washington County, estate returns book E, pages 182-183, 184, 623, and 624.

I don't know where 66Moor is buried. He isn't mentioned in Elizabeth Pritchard Newsom's book Washington County Georgia Tombstone Inscriptions.
