46Rhoden Tant was born in Georgia1-4 circa 18561-3* to parents 92John G. Tant and 93Rebecca Hill.1 He was probably born in Augusta, since his parents had married there about two years earlier.5

The 1860 census shows him as a young child with his parents.1 An 1861 Augusta city directory shows 92John's address as 3 Bay Street,6 although I haven't been able to pinpoint that exact location on a modern map.

By 1867 his family had moved to Glascock County,7 and the 1870 census shows 46Rhoden there with his father. His mother 93Rebecca isn't listed, so I presume she had died. 92John doesn't seem to have been doing well financially, since the "value of real estate" and "value of personal estate" columns are both blank.2

Although I haven't found a marriage record, 46Rhoden married 47Narcissa Black circa 1870, as explained below.

Problem: Resolved
Whom did 46Rhoden marry?

The 1900 census shows that 46Rhoden's wife's first name was "Narcissa," that they had been married for 30 years (i.e., since about 1870), and that they had a daughter named Vestie and a son William (among other children).4

William Tant's death certificate lists his parents as Roden Tant and Sis Tant.8 "Sis" is a nickname for Narcissa.

A form OAC-790 filed for Vestie Tan Meeks names her parents, Rhode Tant and Susie Black.9 "Susie" is no doubt a garbled derivative of Narcissa. This record proves that 47Narcissa's maiden name is Black.

Subsequent records show that 46Rhoden and 47Narcissa had several children, and that sometime in the 1880's they moved from Glascock County to Johnson County. The family may have been somewhat poor, since the 1890 tax digest shows that 46Rhoden's total property value was only $46.10

The 1900 census is the last record I've found pertaining to 46Rhoden.

Footnote:

*The 1900 census shows that he was born February 1852,4 but this contradicts three earlier censuses1-3 and is therefore probably wrong.
