3305Sarah's early life is unknown.* Indeed, she is known from only one record: Quakers in Nansemond and Isle of Wight counties, Virginia kept a book of monthly meeting minutes that names 3304Isaac and 3305Sarah Ricks as the parents of three children born between 1698 and 1705.1 Therefore, we can guess that 3304Isaac and 3305Sarah married circa 1697.

Although her husband is named in two later deeds,2,3 the abovecited record is the only known record that mentions 3305Sarah directly.

Footnote:

*An older work asserts that 3305Sarah's maiden name is McKinnie, and that she is the daughter of Barnaby McKinne, who on 28 March 1722 gave some land to a man named Isaac Ricks.4 However, Donald Milton Ricks decisively refutes this theory on pages 61-62 of his book The Descendants of Jonas Ricks and Other Ricks Families in America. His analysis is lengthy and somewhat beyond the scope of this article, so I refer you to the book itself if you're interested in this topic.

After a short list of births, the next record in the book is a religious text (It seems to be the text of a sermon.) dated 23 December 1707. Therefore, the births were probably recorded within a few years after they had occurred.
