Note: Some of the research presented here is based on: Alvaretta Kenan Register and David M. Foley (ed.), Everett/Everitt Family: A Genealogical History (the Estate of Alvaretta Kenan Register, Statesboro, Georgia, 1987), pages 17-18 (“112. John Carter Everett [...]”).

326John died young—at just 34 years old—in Bulloch County on 30 November 18351 from an unknown cause. His estate inventory lists slaves, many farm animals, tools, and other typical farm/plantation items, plus a trumpet and a coffee mill.5 I also found an estate return,6 although it's not especially interesting.

326John's family stepped in after his death: His brother Josiah J. Everitt served as one of the administrators of the estate.7 About a year after 326John died, his father 652Joshua gifted a substantial amount of land to "my two little grand sons Josiah E Everitt and John C Everitt sons of John C Everitt deceased." The deed also passingly mentions their sisters (i.e., 326John's daughters) but doesn't name them.2

Another, later record describes how the slaves belonging to 326John's estate were distributed to his heirs by drawing lots. The record also names the heirs in question, including his son-in-law 162James Tillman.8 Another record appointed men to divide the estate.9

Footnote:

*Since 652Joshua married 653Jane Carter in 1797,10 since 326John was born in 1801,1 and since 652Joshua and 653Jane were still married at that time (and far beyond), one can deduce that 326John's mother was 653Jane Carter.
