The earliest record I've found of 182Roderick Johnson Sutton is his marriage record, which shows that he married 183Mary "Polly" Chambers in Wilkinson County, Georgia on 4 April 1824.1

In 1830 182Roderick received land that he'd won from Georgia's 1827 land lottery, i.e. Lee County's section 1, district 7, lot 233.2 This lot lies in what is now Clay County not far from the Alabama-Georgia state line; I've marked it on the master map. I haven't made a serious effort to research what 182Roderick did with the land. The grant record describes him as "J.P. of Currey's district Wilkinson County," but I've been unable to find further information about this role. Currey's district is militia district 332 (map).

Unfortunately, after 1830 182Roderick is somewhat of an enigma: Even though the land grant shows that 182Roderick resided in Wilkinson County in 1830,2 I've been unable to find him in the 1830 census, nor in the other records listed below. (I checked some Warren County records since 182Rodie's wife 183Mary later lived there.)

Georgia Pioneers, Century of Warren County, Georgia, Wills, 1790-1890 (Albany, Georgia, no publication date stated). Family History Library call number 975.8625 S2c. I checked under the surnames Johnson and Sutton.
Warren County, Georgia. Inventory appraisements & sales book F (1837-1842), index. On page 284 is a March 1839 sale record from the estate of Robert Johnson, but I see no Sutton purchasers, and this is probably a different person altogether.
Warren County, Georgia. Inventory appraisements & sales book G (1842-1848), index.
Warren County, Georgia. Inventory appraisements & sales book for the years 1850-1857, index.
Warren County, Georgia. Index to deeds & mortgages for the years 1796-1885. I started on page 392 and checked for "Sutton" entries in the reverse index columns up through the year 1859.
Joseph T. Maddox, Wilkinson County, Georgia, Wills 1817-1920: With Genealogical Information (Irwinton, Georgia, 1971).
Wilkinson County, Georgia. Probate records book 2 (1820-1853), index.
Wilkinson County, Georgia. Probate records book 3 (1853-1860), index.

182Roderick probably died between circa 1844 (when his apparent son Henry was born3) and 1849 (when 183Polly is listed as the head of household, implying that she was a widow by that time4).
