111Sarah Grant was born in Georgia1-3 circa 1803.1,2

Problem: Unresolved
Who is 111Sarah's father?

As of this writing, 111Sarah's FamilySearch profile indicates that her father was Joseph Grant, but it doesn't offer a clear proof statement to support this hypothesis.

In 1820 Joseph Grant lived very close to 111Sarah's future father-in-law, 220William Turner, in Hancock County, Georgia. Joseph's household did not include a white female of age 16-25, as one might expect. It did, however, include two females of age 10-15, so perhaps one of these two was 111Sarah.4

One might hope to prove the relationship using probate records, but unfortunately Hancock County's probate records index book shows no pertinent entries. (There is an inventory for the estate of a Joseph Grant, but it's dated 25 January 1815 and therefore must be for a different person altogether.5)

Joseph Grant was a veteran of the Revolutionary War6 and received a pension as such,7 but his pension application doesn't mention 111Sarah.6

As of this writing, the Daughters of the American Revolution's ancestor database entry for Joseph Grant shows that applications have been approved via Joseph's son James, but there is no mention of a daughter 111Sarah.8

Based on the above evidence, for now I prefer to consider the question unresolved, and thus 111Sarah's father's identity remains uncertain.

111Sarah married 110William Turner on 26 September 1826 in Hancock County, Georgia.9 For more information about their marriage, their lives together, etc., see his profile since that information won't be repeated here.

By 1857 111Sarah was a widow.10 She still had a child to care for and probably felt overwhelmed, so perhaps that's why the 185710 and 185911 tax digests show that she owned one slave despite the family's generally poor financial state. The 1860 census shows that she had adult children living with her.2

The 1880 census is the last sure record I've found pertaining to 111Sarah. There are mentions of a Sarah F. Turner in the two references listed below, but she seems to be a different woman altogether because she left a minor daughter, Sallie (see vouchers book, voucher #2, page 284).

Butts County annual returns & vouchers book for the years 1864-1888, pages 283-284, 470-478, 556, and 557
Butts County sales & appraisements book B (1874-1918), pages 248, 250, 251, and 291

Butts County newspapers mention "Sarah F. Turner" in March 1885,12 and also "Miss Sarah Turner" whose "place" was "on the outskirts of Jefferson" in February 1887,13 and both make clear that the woman in question was still living, but I'm not sure that either refers to our 111Sarah.
