824Moses received at least two Granville land grants in the mid-1700's: an April 1745 grant for 350 acres in Edgecombe County on the north side of Concho Creek2 (I've been unable to determine the location of Concho Creek.); and a May 1756 grant for 603 acres also in Edgecombe County (copied below).3 A later deed alludes to a possible third Granville grant in May 1760,4 although I've been unable to find it in other records.

May 1756: 824Moses was granted 630 acres in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.3

824Moses later sold some of his grant lands, along with various other sales and purchases. The deeds summarized below are all from Halifax County, North Carolina records. The last three deeds (from February 1767) are co-signed by Mary Horne, who (as will be explained later) was 824Moses' wife.

824Moses died sometime before 27 July 1782, since an estate sale of his personal effects was held that day. You can see the sale record if you'd like, but some of the more interesting items mentioned therein are numerous guns, a sword, a horse and mare, a currycomb, "one sugar box," leather, a blacksmith tool set, iron, a millstone, and a sleigh harness.13

An estate division record gives us more information about his family. It names his wife Mary and strongly implies that his children are Joel Horn, 412Abishai Horn, Redman Bunn, Benjamin Bunn, Kezia Bunn, Jacob Horn, Jane Horn, Samuel Cutchen, Moses Horn, William Horn, Sarah Horn. The Bunn children may be step-children, but I'm unsure how Samuel Cutchen could be related.14

The estate division record also names many slaves—Guy, Creese[?], Venus, Rubin, Dick, Jacob, Benn, Abraham, Shane, a girl named Sale[?], Davey, Sam, Pinnesor[?], Charely, Rita[?], Denise, Toney[?], Harry, and Silva—and many other personal belongings that weren't mentioned in the estate sale record, including numerous farm animals, a Dutch oven, a butter pot, hives of bees, bacon, wool, and many other items.14
