Note: The research presented here is based on: John Frederick Dorman, Ancestors and Descendants of Francis Epes I of Virginia (Epes-Eppes-Epps), Volume I (Society of the Descendants of Francis Epes I of Virginia, 1992), mostly pages 8-9 (“K1 JOHND EPES [after 1457-1526]”).

65665Margaret's identity is known only from a brass plaque in St. Clement's Church, Old Romney, Kent, England, which describes her as 65664John Eps' wife.1 Her depiction on the plaque is not entirely clear, but she does seem to be wearing clothing typical of English women in the late 1400's to early 1500's. I can't identify her headdress precisely, but it has elements resembling a gable hood and what seems to be a short, possibly divided hennin.

When 65664John wrote his will on 3 December 1524, he indicated that his wife was named Johane,3 so 65664Margaret must have been an earlier wife who probably died some years prior. She's presumably buried in St. Clement's Church, although no record explicitly states so. The church, shown in the photo below,4 is at coordinates N50.9902 E0.8982. See the first several pages of this document for more information on the church's history.
