Is Matthew Knight a Descendant of James Knight (512John Knight's Proposed Father)?

Clayton T. Knight is an alleged descendant of Captain Peter Knight via his son James. His alleged lineage is shown in the table below.

Clayton's 67-marker Y-DNA test results (FamilyTreeDNA kit #265313) are shown below. (Unfortunately, efforts to upgrade Clayton's test to a 111-marker test or higher have been unsuccessful.) The markers labeled orange are known to mutate more frequently than usual.

Clayton's Y-DNA is very similar to results from 512John's descendants. Previously, I had hoped to "piggyback" off of Clayton's Y-DNA to confirm Laura Knight-Jadczyk's proposal that 512John's father is James. However, the Y-DNA comparison is moot if Clayton's lineage cannot be verified with confidence, and sadly that seems to be the case: Although the Jamestowne Society has accepted a membership application based on a similar lineage (See here and search for A4608.), I remain unconvinced. The evidence to prove the more distant generations (i.e., from William Butcher Knight back to James) is straightforward, as I've shown elsewhere. Unfortunately, though, I've been unable to find firm evidence to prove generation 4, i.e. to prove that Matthew Knight is in fact the son of William Butcher Knight. The (inconclusive) evidence that I have found is presented below.

Matthew Knight is listed next door to William B. Knight in the 1830 census:

Although sequential entries on the census would seem intriguing, they become less persuasive when one looks at the rest of the entries on that page:

As you can see, there are numerous Knights living close to each other, and the relationships among them aren't especially clear. Two households (namely, the William B. Knight household and the last William Knight household) both have an older white male in the expected age range for Matthew's father.

Continuing our search, we find that Matthew Knight married Nancy Haney in Orange County on 15 December 1823. The bride's father, James Haney, was a witness.

After James Haney died, a William Knight and Lurinna(?) Knight sold property from his estate.

This William and Lurinna Knight no doubt would have been acquainted with Matthew, but sadly I can't identify them further except for a probate record dated 27 April 1844, in which William's estate was auctioned off, and "the widow Lurinna Night" was the sole purchaser.

As noted above, the Jamestowne Society has accepted a membership application in which Matthew Knight is asserted to be the son of William Butcher Knight, but the accompanying documentation is reportedly weak, poorly organized, and circumstantial.

On a brighter note, there is evidence to prove that William Butcher Knight had a son William C. Knight, as described here. Hopefully someday one of his male-line descendants will take a Y-DNA test; I'm offering a financial reward for anyone who can help with this.
