243Edith Harrison was born circa 1782 in North Carolina.1 Her parents are 486Davis Harrison and 487Phoebe Hood, as explained below.

Problem: Resolved
Who are 243Edith's parents?

On 5 August 1835, 243Edith personally appeared in a Carroll County, Georgia court and deposed that her father was 486Davis Harrison.2

"Eady Reid and after being Sworn deposeth and saith on Oath that her father Davis Harrison"
This court record proves that 243Edith's father was 486Davis Harrison. Full page.3

Identifying 243Edith's mother, however, is mildly more challenging. First I'll prove that 486Davis' wife was 487Phoebe Hood, and then I'll explain why 487Phoebe is the most plausible (and basically the only plausible) woman who could've borne 486Davis' children, followed by an additional, affirming consideration.

486Davis married 487Phoebe Hood:

486Davis was acquainted with 974Tunis Hood (487Phoebe's father) by 1779, since 974Tunis witnessed a deed for 486Davis on that date.4

Although we lack an actual marriage record, we know that 486Davis did marry 487Phoebe, since 974Tunis' will, dated 12 April 1797, names "my beloved daughter Phebe Harrison" as an heir,5 and because 487Phoebe is mentioned alongside 486Davis in some later records.6-8

487Phoebe is the most plausible woman to have borne 243Edith:

Since 486Davis was acquainted with 974Tunis Hood by 1779,4 since we know that 486Davis married 487Phoebe,5 and since 243Edith was born circa 1782,1 it seems overwhelmingly likely that 487Phoebe bore 243Edith.

Hypothetically, 486Davis could've had another wife before 487Phoebe, and this hypothetical first wife could've borne 243Edith. However, there's no other evidence to suggest that 486Davis had an earlier wife, and this hypothesis seems very unlikely considering the overall evidence presented above.

Another consideration:

In 1850 243Edith and her husband 242Henry were living with a young man named T. H. Reid.1 His marriage record reveals that his fuller name was Teunis H. Reid.9 As is proven elsewhere on this website, 974Tunis Hood is the father of (243Edith's proposed mother) 487Phoebe Hood. The naming pattern helps to affirm that 243Edith's mother is indeed 487Phoebe.

243Edith married 242Henry Reid. For more information on their marriage, their lives together, etc., see his profile since most of that information won't be repeated here.

In 1835 243Edith signed a deposition (in relation to a compensation claim for horses that Indians had stolen from her father decades earlier), so we can see how she signed her name.3
