430Jesse Doles was born circa 17501 or sometime in the 1750's.2 His father was 860Joseph Doles.3


860Joseph Doles' will, dated 8 June 1774 in Southampton County, Virginia, names 430Jesse Doles as one of three sons.3

430Jesse fought for America during the Revolutionary War.4 His DAR ancestor number is A032998.5

Although we don't know exactly when, 430Jesse married 431Elizabeth Summerell, as proven in part by her father's will.6


862John Summerell's will, probated 11 November 1784 in Southampton County, Virginia, mentions a daughter "Elizabeth Doles." 6 Later documents confirm that 430Jesse's wife's name is 431Elizabeth.7

On 15 February 1779, 430Jesse bought 100 acres of land in Halifax County, North Carolina8 (about 60 miles southwest of Southampton County, Virginia, where his father had died a few years prior3). The 1790 census shows his family there in Halifax County,9 but he sold the land a few months later.10

430Jesse subsequently appears in Warren County, Georgia County, Georgia tax records for the years 1794,11 1801,12 and 1805.13 We later find him in Baldwin County, Georgia for the 1820 and 1830 censuses.2,14

430Jesse died on 26 July 1831. His death was reported in a Milledgeville newspaper:

He's buried on private land in Baldwin County at coordinates N33.12056 W83.34944. Below are two photos of his grave,15 and a 1939 newspaper article about the placement of his current tombstone.16
