Transcript of part of an interview with Retha Mae Bennett (daughter of Oscar Geiger, brother of 20 Joseph Preston Geiger, son of 41 Piety Davis, daughter of 82 Thomas A. Davis), 5 November 2011. Participants: Retha Mae Bennett Bryant Knight Charlotte Vallellanes ----- Retha: Mr. Davis, Piety's Dad, Grandma Davis. Grandma Piety's Daddy. ___ had um, seven daughters, I think it was, and one son. And uh, the daughters all of them musicians, and Grandpa Davis was a music teacher, and uh, so they traveled Bryant: P-P-P-Piety's Dad? Retha: Piety's Dad. Bryant: Piety's Dad was a music teacher? Retha: Yeah, the Dad was the musici, uh, music teacher, and they would go county to county, and the, all of the girls could play an instrument but Pa's ma. Charlotte: Huh. Retha: But Piety. Charlotte: But Piety. (slight laughter) Bryant: Oh well. Retha: So they would go make music and sell lessons, and they may stay in that county two or three months, you know. They just come home, uh, periodically. But they began to marry, then the girls all were gettin' grown, um, marryin'. I don't even know. Let's see, she. Aunt Kate [or Kay?] married a Jackson, Kate Jackson, I remember those names. I thought, "Well, that's a common name." And then Aunt Clara White and ___ at Waycross, and, uh, ___ up in to Waycross, wherever. And, let's see, they had two sons, and they worked the railroads. So, I, I, just bits and pieces of that family. There was an Emma, uh, and we corresponded. Charlotte: Now these are Piety's sisters? Retha: Mm-hmm. Charlotte: Okay. Retha: And her name was McClintock or something like that. It was a Mc-something. And, uh, I know in '51, I wrote and told her about Ma and Pa's 50th reunion, and for them to come if they could. So they planned to come, and something happened, I don't know, at that age they were pretty old. And, uh, that was Pa's aunts, you know. Charlotte: Right.
