[The record is not dated, but the preceding record is dated 29 April 1833 Georgia Jefferson County To the Honorable the Inferior Court in and for the County aforesaid The Petition of Stephen Dureauzeaux showeth that he is injured and hath sustained damage of Piety Dureauzeaux of the County aforesaid to a large amount for that heretofore in the month of September in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Twenty Georgia your petitioner from his love and affection for the said Piety tendered his hand in matrimony to her, which was accepted as he thought in like good faith as it was offered and that she cherished for and toward him that affection and esteem without which the married life is a curse instead of a blessing, Your petitioner however was not long suffered to indulge in the pleasing delusion for the link[?] of connubial bliss had scarcely been raised to his lips before it was tinged with gall in the month of September in the year Eighteen Hundred and Twenty your petitioner and the said Piety were duly and according to law united in the bonds of matrimony and although your petitioner had travelled[?] far[?] in the journey of life and was fast approaching according to human calculation what might be termed[?] the frigid zone although with as much of heat[?] and blood as ordinary falls to the lot of humanity and __ __ a greater share and whilst thus travelling on it ___ to him that by throwing himself into the arms and embraces of Charity he would pass gently[?] and[?] placidly[?] down the current of life without a ripple in his course and that his last days would [be] better than his first days and that although ___ had __ in[?] yet that for a while it might be checked in course of life that he would be thrown back into the spring of life where he might for a while enjoy its sweets[? or smiles?] and breath it fragrances and then be gathereed to his fathers in peace; but alas, Piety had determined therein and has ___ to his ___ and bitter[?] ___ that [s?]he ever[?] __ __ __ __ blessings for your petitioner for instead of a blessing she has been a curse instead of imparting[?] youthful heat, life and anim- ation __ and __ when[?] __ __ __; then she has brought discomfort and a cloud of cares sorrows disapoint- ments and __ that affection which she plighted[?] to your[?] ___ she has masterly lavished[?] upon others, instead of leading a pious and chaste life and acting the part of a faithful and upright wife she has been in constant unchaste and ___, and has indulged in shameful and licentious course of adulterous connections with divers men of evil fame and consideration whereby she hath totally forfeited on his part his mental obligations and your petitioner hath no prospect of happiness or contentment in his __ connections with her and is desirous of having the bonds of matrimony disol- ved between her and himself wherefore he brings this suit and prays has[?] ___ __ requiring[?] the said Piety Duerauzaux personally or by attorney to be and appea[r] at the next Inferior Court to be held in and for the county of Jefferson on the fourth Monday in October next then and there to answer the Plaintiff your petitioner petition in __ action __ thereon[?] for a total divorce or a disunion ____ R.
