On 4 May 1720 in Northampton County, Virginia, "Ann Griffith widow" witnessed the will of John Fathrey.1 *

On 10 October 1727 still in Northampton County, Virginia, 2893Ann (with her son Benjamin as a co-signer) sold 50 acres of her deceased husband's land.2 Perhaps her subsequent migration to North Carolina (see next paragraph) occurred shortly after this 1727 sale. Very fortunately for us, the deed explicitly introduces 2893Ann as the widow of 2892Jonas Griffith. An analysis of this deed in relation to other records proves that 2893Ann and 2892Jonas had numerous children together, so we know they were married for a long time despite our lack of more contemporary records. For more information about her husband's activities (and hers) during the time when they were likely married, see his profile since that information won't be repeated here.

On 7 February 1757 in Craven County, North Carolina, "Ann Griffin[,] spinster" gifted all of her possessions to her "grandsons Benjamin Griffin and Major Griffin son of [1446]Jonas Griffin." 3 The deed implies that she was living with her son 1446Jonas, and that she probably died not long thereafter.

Footnote:

*Researchers M.K. Miles and Barry Miles have stated that 2893Ann is related to John Fathrey:4

(1) "John Fathrey [II], a son of John Fathrey I and Ann Hall. Ann Hall was a daughter of Emanuel Hall I, and thus a sister to the John Hall who married Frances Griffith, a daughter of Jerom Griffith I."

(2) "John Fathrey II was also a brother to Ann Fathrey who married William Griffith, a son of Jerom Griffith II. He was also a brother to Elizabeth Fathrey who married Luke Griffith I, a son of Jerom Griffith I."

I have not attempted to verify their claims.
