212Robert Carr is known from only one record: a deed dated 9 January 1827 from Hancock County, Georgia. It names a son 106Jesse Carr, mentions (but does not name) a living wife, and also names a few neighbors and slaves.1

Hancock County } This indenture made this ninth day of January in the year of our Lord
               Eighteen hundred and twenty seven, between Robert Carr of the one part and Jesse Carr of the other part, both of the county and state aforesaid. Whereas the said Robert Carr being the father of the said Jesse Carr, by reason of his age + infirmities is not capable of attending to his Estate and affairs as formerly, and has therefore agreed to make[?] over his Estate to the said Jesse Carr, so that the said Jesse should pay the debts of the said Robert Carr and afford him + his wife a comfortable maintenance, so as to afford him the said Robert + his wife comfort + ___. Now this Indenture witnesseth, that the said Robert Car, in order to carry the said agreement into effect and in consideration of the natural love and affection which he hath for and towards his son the said Jesse Carr, and of the agreement hereinafter maintained by the said Jesse Carr to be observed and performed, hath given, granted, bargained, sold and assigned and by these presents, doth give, grant, bargain, sell + assign unto the said Jesse Car his executors, administrators + assigns, all and singular my lands, lying in the county + State aforesaid, on the Oconee river, containing seven hundred acres, be[?] the same more or less, adjoining Flourney[?], Hubberd, + others, to be his heirs + assigns forever, also three negroes viz, Sam, Daniel + Linda, together with all my stock of horses, cattle + hogs, household + kitchen furniture + plantation utensils of every description, and the said Jesse Car for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators, doth agree to +[?] with the said Robert Car, his executors, administrators + assigns in manner + form following, that is to say, that ___ the said Jesse Carr, his Heirs, executors + administrators shall + will settle, pay + satisfy or cause to be paid all accounts + demands of every nature whatsoever now outstanding against the said Robert Car, or for the payment of which the said Robert Car shall be liable, either in law or Equity, and moreover that the said Jesse Car, heir heirs, executors and administrators, shall and will support, maintain, + keep comfortable the said Robert Car + his wife during their natural lives, suitable to his state and situation, and I the said Robert Car, doth give, grant and confirm the aforementioned property to the said Jesse Car, his executors, administrators, + assigns forever in ___. In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal in presents of us[?] the day and date above written.
